Marawi: Nanay Emma and Her Food Vending Business

Nanay Emma was born and raised in Marawi City, where she got married and had her 7 children. They have a food vending business as a source of their income. They cook pater and other viands, and sell it in the neighborhood. Her husband is also working in Cotabato City to support their children in school. She became a member of CARD MRI in October 12, 2015.

During the siege, the family evacuated to Cotabato City and stayed there for 6 months. In Cotabato, they experienced shortage of food but with the help of relief goods from government and some support from their relatives, they were able to survive. They returned to Marawi last November 2016 and was still dependent on relief goods from the government and other private sectors including CARD. It was in March 2018 when Nanay Emma finally availed the Calamity loan offered by CARD. With the amount of Php 5,000.00, she was able to start her food vending business again.
